Zithromax Interactions with Other Medications

Always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal remedies, before starting Zithromax. This includes prescription drugs like blood thinners (warfarin), heart medications (digoxin), and certain antacids.

Combining Zithromax with warfarin may increase bleeding risk. Close monitoring of your blood clotting time is necessary.

Concurrent use of Zithromax and digoxin can lead to elevated digoxin levels. Your doctor might adjust your digoxin dosage.

Antacids containing magnesium or aluminum can reduce Zithromax absorption. Take Zithromax at least two hours before or after taking antacids.

Ergot alkaloids (used to treat migraine) should be avoided while taking Zithromax due to a potential for increased risk of ergotism.

Zithromax can interact with certain medications used to treat myasthenia gravis, potentially worsening muscle weakness. Discuss this with your doctor if you take such medications.
